Christmas Indoor Bowling Fun.

The Class of 23 umbrella bowlers enjoyed a fantastic Pre-Christmas evening session of indoor bowls at Burnham on Sea Bowls Club last week. Everyone including the spectators had donned their Christmas jumpers (or PJ’s!) as you can see in the photo.

There was plenty of fun with lots of laughter, banter and singing. There was even a little dancing to some wonderful festive music played by the resident D. J.  Miss  Rita D.Home-made festive cupcakes cooked by the internationally renowned chef of Dib’s Creations, along with mince pies, apple pies and of course plenty of chocolate.

Mike was kept nice and busy behind the bar as normal and was seen singing along to himself, well done Mike.

From the spectator’s point of view it was great to see the massive improvement in all the bowlers and the encouragement they give to each other.

The Friday umbrella is now taking a break during the holiday season and will return in the new year. As always all new members, who joined in 2023 are welcome to come along on a Friday, to join in the fun. Registration is via the WhatsApp group at 6pm on Thursday with the bowling starting between 6.45 and 7pm on Fridays, once everyone has arrived.

Story

My name is Paul Liell from Fairwater Garage, and we are raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure.

In 2019 over 850,000 people aged 65 and over in the UK had dementia and by 2040, there will be over 1.5 million people with dementia in the UK. 5 in every 100 people with Alzheimer’s disease are under 65.

A friend of mine has just received this terrible diagnosis and not only has it had a massive impact on them but also on all those close to them. Many of you will know someone who is also suffering.

My wife Claire and her friend Richard Thomas are running the London Marathon in April 2024, and we are looking to raise as much money as possible to support Alzheimer’s Research UK for a cure.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your support!

Best wishes

Green Closure & Laying Indoor Carpet

The green will close from sunset Saturday the 23rd of the month and the indoor carpet will be laid Sunday morning.

Looking for a few volunteers to help put the green to bed and remove most of the tables and chairs from the clubhouse.

The ditch liners need to be turned over and the benches placed under cover in the Joan Hazelton area.

Most tables and chairs to be moved from clubhouse into visitors changing rooms.

Meeting at around 10.00 am Sunday the 24th and normally takes about an hour.

Congratulations to Trudi and Dave Jenkins

Congratulations to Trudi and Dave on making their debut for the bowls club at home, against Mytchett Bowls Club from Surrey yesterday. Both said they throughly enjoyed the game, the friendly competition and the fun experience. They are also both looking forward to their next match for the club.
Trudi and Dave contributed very nicely on their respective rinks, a big well done from the club!
Trudi and Dave are the sixteenth and seventeenth new members this year to bowl in a club match and be awarded a club shirt.
They are shown here being presented with complimentary club shirts from Chairman, Don Bridges.

Congratulations to Rita & Alfie Dibble

Congratulations to Rita & Alfie on playing in their first game for the Club. They played in a match at home against Brush Bowling Club from Loughborough, Leicestershire and received complimentary shirts for playing.

Both contributed very nicely in fine wins for their respective rinks, well done from the club.

Indoor AGM Thursday 24th 19.00

Hi All Club Members,
Thursday, 7pm on 24th August,  is the Indoor AGM at the Club.
Please attend if you are thinking of joining us this winter for indoor play. There will be the opportunity at the meeting to select a session (or more) where you join a team for set times to play throughout the season (this is not necessarily a weekly commitment).
If you cannot attend and would like to join a team or teams like most, please just mention it to another member who will registrar your interest.
Membership fee is only £10 (waived for new full members).
Coaching will be available and roll up times plentiful (if carpet not being used for matches).
Look forward to seeing you!
Jim Bass on behalf of June Bridges, Indoor Secretary

Congratulations to Phil Johnson

Congratulations to Phil Johnson on playing his first game for Burnham on Sea Bowling Club, at home against Victoria Park (Bridgwater) today.

Phil is the thirteenth new member to receive a complimentary club shirt for playing for the Club this season.
Thirteen is clearly not an unlucky number for Phil! He contributed very well to a fine win on his rink, helping to make it a clean sweep of wins for the Club.
Phil also played his first in-house competition the night before, narrowly losing in a tightly contested match.

Club Shirt presented by Club Captain Richard Luscombe.

Australian Pairs Match 2023: Results and Photos

Firstly, we must thank Jean Hills for organising a wonderful afternoon of our in-house bowls competition. It looked like everybody had a great time, win or lose and having fun with lots of banter, laughing, encouragement, smiles, and most of all plenty of enjoyment.

There were so many close games – and some not so close – but that is all part of bowls!

The scores at the end were tied with Wendy Emmett and Tim Rhodes, along with Anthony Donnelly and Mary Ryder, each having an impressive plus 14 score. On count back, Wendy and Tim had won more ends, so were declared the overall Champions, 2023. However, well done to all four of you and everybody who took part.
