Indoor Competitions, Closing Date for Entries 30th November

Hi everyone.

Just a quick thank you to those who have already put themselves forward for the competitions this year. Please remember that if you want to play triples and pairs then you MUST create a team and add the team details to the other two sheets. There are some on the main tick sheet who have not yet done this, so please can you speak to your friends and create your teams as soon as possible. We need more teams for both triples and pairs, to allow those competitions to go ahead.

If you are having trouble making up a team, let me or Richard Luscombe know, and we will do what we can to help and those of you who are in Class of 24, send a shoutout into your WhatsApp chat to see if anyone else is in the same position as you.

The sheets are up on one of the noticeboards in the clubhouse, so check them out next time you are there and make sure you join in the fun.

Paul.

Indoor Secretary.

Results and Information On The Clubs Olympics 2024

The Olympics (…well sort of …) Friday 13th September

Friday the 13th may be deemed unlucky but not for the 36 members who attended The Burnham on Sea Bowls Club’s Olympics.  Teams of four competed against each other at ten events.  Members old and new got together, chose an obscure country name and took on the challenges.

Rita and sous chef Brenda put up a splendid buffet from 6.30 to fuel the athletes throughout the night, Jim Bass enthusiastically manned the door and took official photos, whilst Terry, Pete and team manned the bar. The sporty attire dress code was embraced by all.

The first event was in the pool and involved two members of each team sending off their swimmer and steering them to the finish line. No team members were soaked during the event, surprisingly. With the swimming completed we moved onto the game’s stadium.

Laughter, cheers and groans filled the air as events took place. The discus event involving plates and cotton reels tested team loyalty and skills. When do you stop, or do you try one more in the tower building? Archery proved challenging as some players fumbled arrows and the bow, but Robin Hood’s reputation is safe. The high jump saw a Small Lego Man being propelled upwards and sideways hitting the blinds, floor, windows and down the radiator but landing successfully for several athletes.  The tennis event proved so funny for some ladies we were glad it was placed close to the loos!

The equestrian challenge and golf putting range were obviously outside to give everyone a breath of fresh air.  Both events tested teams to the limit, but success was achieved.

Obviously all Olympic Games finish with the relays and so teams furiously raced to gain the maximum points and thus the medals.  Never has so much fun been had with four chairs, a balloon and a bucket.

The medal presentation by Don Bridges assisted by glamorous Brenda concluded the night. An amazing Olympic chocolate cake was raffled and is being returned to the club by Mike 3 for the Chesney Triples.

A huge thank you to all who took part, the nutritional suppliers especially and those who helped clear up.

Gold Medallist are Donna, Bill, Trudi, and Dave.

Silver Medallists are Rita, Janet, Keith and Roger

Bronze Medallists are. Jean and Julie.

Mike Squire – event coordinator.
