Somerset Bowls Association Luncheon & Presentation of Trophies
On 2nd November 2025 at the Batch Country House members from our club attended the annual luncheon along with 270 others. The principal guest was the Chair of Bowls England, David Tucker.
Attendees enjoyed a lovely lunch and some informative speeches. These were followed by the presentation of trophies to bowlers from across the county who had achieved success in various competitions and leagues last season.
Don, with support from June, organised this event, as they have done for several years. The afternoon ran smoothly and Don was commended for his work and June was presented with a bouquet of flowers. The event concluded with a raffle.
Members will be encouraged to participate in county competitions and leagues next season. Details of how to get involved are posted on the SBA website and will be communicated to members when our secretary is advised. There is something for everyone, so let’s see if we can get our club’s name in lights next year!

Quiz Night
Was Hitler a vegetarian?’ Half the 42 players at our first social of the season thought so, but they were wrong.
Dressed in black and white the teams engaged in tasks, cheese tasting, identifying flowers, objects of interest and the ever-popular grocer’s feely bag that also became a centre of great laughter and inuendo. Never has a large courgette in a pillowcase caused so much fun.

Terry and Rob fuelled the players with a good night at the bar. Rita supported by Brenda and Alfie provided a superb Ploughman’s Supper of complexity and taste.
The prize awarded for best dressed black and white contestant went to Trudi. The prize for best imaginary pop group name was given to Dot, Anne, Marion and Elaine known as the ‘Dames’. They were also the night’s runners up being beaten by The Swinging Sisters. Their first prize was a banana themed bag!
A splendid raffle including brandy, champagne, marmalade and Marmite concluded the evening.
The quiz night bought together new and old players and social members for the benefit of the club. These events take time and effort to get off the ground and make for a great atmosphere. The next event in August will be a pairs Tiddlywinks Tournament, flipping’ heck.
