Results and Information On The Clubs Olympics 2024

The Olympics (…well sort of …) Friday 13th September

Friday the 13th may be deemed unlucky but not for the 36 members who attended The Burnham on Sea Bowls Club’s Olympics.  Teams of four competed against each other at ten events.  Members old and new got together, chose an obscure country name and took on the challenges.

Rita and sous chef Brenda put up a splendid buffet from 6.30 to fuel the athletes throughout the night, Jim Bass enthusiastically manned the door and took official photos, whilst Terry, Pete and team manned the bar. The sporty attire dress code was embraced by all.

The first event was in the pool and involved two members of each team sending off their swimmer and steering them to the finish line. No team members were soaked during the event, surprisingly. With the swimming completed we moved onto the game’s stadium.

Laughter, cheers and groans filled the air as events took place. The discus event involving plates and cotton reels tested team loyalty and skills. When do you stop, or do you try one more in the tower building? Archery proved challenging as some players fumbled arrows and the bow, but Robin Hood’s reputation is safe. The high jump saw a Small Lego Man being propelled upwards and sideways hitting the blinds, floor, windows and down the radiator but landing successfully for several athletes.  The tennis event proved so funny for some ladies we were glad it was placed close to the loos!

The equestrian challenge and golf putting range were obviously outside to give everyone a breath of fresh air.  Both events tested teams to the limit, but success was achieved.

Obviously all Olympic Games finish with the relays and so teams furiously raced to gain the maximum points and thus the medals.  Never has so much fun been had with four chairs, a balloon and a bucket.

The medal presentation by Don Bridges assisted by glamorous Brenda concluded the night. An amazing Olympic chocolate cake was raffled and is being returned to the club by Mike 3 for the Chesney Triples.

A huge thank you to all who took part, the nutritional suppliers especially and those who helped clear up.

Gold Medallist are Donna, Bill, Trudi, and Dave.

Silver Medallists are Rita, Janet, Keith and Roger

Bronze Medallists are. Jean and Julie.

Mike Squire – event coordinator.

CLEAR OUT DAYS – 21/22 SEPTEMBER 2024

It has been brought to The Management Committee’s attention from several members, that our changing rooms and clubhouse has been looking untidy and cluttered for a long time with one thing or another.

So with this in mind the club has decided there will be a total clear out of the changing rooms & the clubhouse.

Please assist us by taking by all your belongings home from both the changing rooms & clubhouse, including bowls, bags & clothing, or put safely away in your locker by Monday Morning 23rd September.

This process should identify items that do not belong current members or former members.

Any items unclaimed will be stored elsewhere. A photograph of the items will be put in a folder and kept in the clubhouse for six months.

Congratulations to Janis Owen

Congratulations goes to Janis on making her debut for the bowls club away against Mark Moor Bowls Club on Friday the 30th of August.

Janis contributed very nicely to win on her rink in the triples as lead bowler and overall for the club against a strong team, with Burnham on Sea Bowls Club winning 100 points to Mark Moor’s 98.

Janis said after the game she found the game to be very friendly and a very enjoyable experience and loved the feeling of being part of Burnham on Sea Bowls Club.

Janis also added she is looking forward to playing more matches for the club leading up to the end of the season and has added her name for more friendly’s.

A big well done from the other members and welcome to our friendly bowls club Janis.

Janis is shown in the photo being presented with her complementary shirt for playing in her first match for the club by the Men’s Captain and captain of the day Bob Brown.
