Indoor Competition Results and Photos

Congratulations to Don Bridges on winning the singles final.

Commiserations to the runner up Tom Emmett. In a game as all the rest that was played in a great friendly spirit and atmosphere, that maybe sums up our indoor bowls.

Trophy presented by Paul Finch, Indoor Secretary.

Congratulations also go to the winners of the triple’s competition Mary Ryder, Jim Bass and Richard Luscombe and commiserations to our runners up, Bob Attwood, John Hill and Tim Rhodes.

Congratulations to the pairs winners Alfie Dibble and Dennis Williams, in a match that was close-run thing. One could go as far to say that it was at one stage, devilishly close with the score line after 6 ends being 6 all!

Alfie and Dennis pulled ahead steadily after that and, despite a valiant comeback  – scoring 9 in the last 3 ends, Paul and Richard were unable to claw back enough points and after 21 ends Alfie Dibble and Dennis Williams were declared your Pairs Champions with Paul Finch and Richard Luscombe runners up.

Trophy Presented by Don Bridges, Club Chairman

Thanks go to Richard for providing the tea and coffee facilities, to Rita for her wonderful cupcakes and to Mike for his Bertie’s every flavour pastry.

In total there were 37 competitors across all three competitions. So many, in fact, that we even had to hold a prelim singles round before we were able to begin the knockout stages!

Beginning in January, there were a total of 41 matches played, many of which were very closely fought battles, until we had two triples’ teams, two pair’s teams and two singles players lined up to compete for the trophies.

Fork Handles, Garden Volunteers Needed.

It may be the indoor season at the moment and soon the start of the outdoor season, but there is a lot of activity going on outside the clubhouse.

Preparing the green and the gardens for the onslaught of bowlers is a year-round task, undertaken by a team of volunteers.

Perhaps you may fancy doing a bit of gardening?  No application form or experience required.

Why not come along and see what we do, normally Monday morning’s around 10.00

Stand-up gardeners are very welcome, as well as those who like to get down with the weeds.

Perhaps you’re a fair-weather gardener? No Problem, we’ll look forward to seeing you when the sun comes out!

We are also on the lookout for gardening equipment, so if you’ve got any redundant forks or spades, we are keen to put them to good use.

Please contact Jane Finch, Trudi Jenkins or any member of the management committee for further advice.

Photos below.        One sunny Monday morning in February, it was Tom’s turn to get his steps in, sweeping the green. Close by, Jane & Malcolm were spotted in the undergrowth, pruning and weeding.
