Christmas Indoor Bowling Fun.

The Class of 23 umbrella bowlers enjoyed a fantastic Pre-Christmas evening session of indoor bowls at Burnham on Sea Bowls Club last week. Everyone including the spectators had donned their Christmas jumpers (or PJ’s!) as you can see in the photo.

There was plenty of fun with lots of laughter, banter and singing. There was even a little dancing to some wonderful festive music played by the resident D. J.  Miss  Rita D.Home-made festive cupcakes cooked by the internationally renowned chef of Dib’s Creations, along with mince pies, apple pies and of course plenty of chocolate.

Mike was kept nice and busy behind the bar as normal and was seen singing along to himself, well done Mike.

From the spectator’s point of view it was great to see the massive improvement in all the bowlers and the encouragement they give to each other.

The Friday umbrella is now taking a break during the holiday season and will return in the new year. As always all new members, who joined in 2023 are welcome to come along on a Friday, to join in the fun. Registration is via the WhatsApp group at 6pm on Thursday with the bowling starting between 6.45 and 7pm on Fridays, once everyone has arrived.

Story

My name is Paul Liell from Fairwater Garage, and we are raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure.

In 2019 over 850,000 people aged 65 and over in the UK had dementia and by 2040, there will be over 1.5 million people with dementia in the UK. 5 in every 100 people with Alzheimer’s disease are under 65.

A friend of mine has just received this terrible diagnosis and not only has it had a massive impact on them but also on all those close to them. Many of you will know someone who is also suffering.

My wife Claire and her friend Richard Thomas are running the London Marathon in April 2024, and we are looking to raise as much money as possible to support Alzheimer’s Research UK for a cure.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your support!

Best wishes

Club Gardens

We are hoping to form a gardening group to look after the flower and shrub borders surrounding the Green, so they can be enjoyed next season by all who enter the Club gates.
10.30am on Tuesday, 21st November there will be a short meeting to look at the areas that need attention during the winter and spring. If you are able to do gardening such as weeding/shrub pruning and willing to give a little time please do come along or let us know of your interest.

If gardening really isn’t for you there are many other essential tasks that the Club relies on volunteers to do, be it bar duties, maintenance, green keeping or cleaning. All roles are important in helping the Club to function and keep membership costs affordable.

Please get in touch if there is a skill or interest you have and we can find a voluntary task to suit your availability!
